Childs, PhD, associate professor of anthropology in Arts & Sciences, is part of a team of researchers led by Cynthia Beall, PhD, of Case Western Reserve University that has received a three-year, $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for research titled “Genes and the Fertility of Tibetan Women at High Altitude in Nepal.” …

Stacey Goebel, a second-year doctoral student in the Program in Audiology and Communication Sciences, received the 2011 Herbert J. Oyer Student Research Award from the Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology for outstanding research in audiologic rehabilitation. Her research is titled “A Lipreading Test That Assesses Use of Context: Implications for Audiological Rehabilitation.” …

Colin Nichols, PhD, the Carl F. Cori Professor and professor of cell biology and physiology, has received a four-year, $1.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research titled “ATP-Sensitive Potassium Channels in the Heart.” …

Hayrettin Yücesoy, PhD, associate professor of Arabic and Islamic studies in Arts & Sciences, has published a chapter “Justification of Political Authority in Medieval Sunni Thought” in the book Islam, the State, and Political Authority: Medieval Issues and Modern Concerns, ed. by Asma Afsaruddin (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2011).
