PB&Joy helps feed area’s hungry

The second annual PB&Joy food drive at Washington University in St. Louis yielded 4,686 pounds of food and $4,664 in monetary donations.

The cumulative effort is enough to feed 2,338 people for a day, according to Operation Food Search estimates.

Lavender ceremony honors LGBT students

The second annual Lavender Recognition Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in College Hall in the South 40 House. Co-hosted by LGBT Student Involvement and Leadership and the Social Justice Center, the ceremony honors the achievements and contributions of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students and their allies. The Washington University in St. Louis Alumni Association will be hosting a “Washington University Day at Circus Flora” at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, that will be open to all members of the WUSTL community, including alumni, faculty and staff.MORE

Washington University Libraries introduce Open Scholarship repository

Washington University Libraries have announced the launch of Open Scholarship (openscholarship.wustl.edu), a new institutional online repository providing access to the scholarly output of faculty, students and staff from WUSTL. Developed following the Faculty Senate’s passage of an Open Access Resolution in May of 2011, Open Scholarship is a further step in the university’s commitment to make scholarship and creative works freely and easily available to the world community.

WUSTL Green Offices Program launches

Washington University’s new Green Offices Program has launched to encourage offices in all WUSTL campuses to become more sustainable. By launching the program, the Office of Sustainability and Resource Management aim to give offices concrete sustainability tips that can easily be incorporated into offices’ everyday routine and practice.MORE

Annual Summer Writers Institute returns with compressed format, additional offerings

The annual Summer Writers Institute at Washington University in St. Louis returns for its 17th year, this time with a new, compressed format geared toward working professionals and offering workshops in four genres. The new format takes place over eight days, from Friday, July 13, through Saturday, July 21, with evening workshops in fiction; creative nonfiction; flash fiction and prose poetry; and screenplay writing.MORE

Doctor of liberal arts offered through University College

University College, the adult, evening and continuing education division at Washington University in St. Louis, has developed a new degree, the Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA), created for the experienced adult learner who wishes to pursue rigorous interdisciplinary study along with independent, scholarly reading and research.MORE
