Jordan Aibel

"I hope to help the student body find its voice not just on or before the Vice Presidential Debate, but most importantly on Election Day. Even more so than dialogue and debate, I believe that the single best way to use one's voice in our democracy is at the polls."

Biography: Sophomore Jordan Aibel takes his role as coordinator of Washington University's voter registration efforts seriously and for good reason. "I hope to help the student body find its voice not just on or before the Vice Presidential Debate, but most importantly on Election Day," he says.

Energizing voters through the campus' nonpartisan Gephardt Institute for Public Service, Aibel reports that, to date, more than 1,400 students—either first-time voters or those with a change of address—have registered.

"This number shows that students are very excited to participate in the election," he says. "Even more so than dialogue and debate, I believe that the single best way to use one's voice in our democracy is at the polls."

The speaker of the Student Union Senate, Aibel also co-chairs "Controversy N' Coffee," a student group that brings together faculty, staff, community leaders and students to discuss political, economic and social policy issues.

A member of the Student Green Council, Aibel will be tuning into talk on the environmental issues, as well. But the hottest topic of conversation among students on campus, he points out, has had more to do with how they can get a ticket to the Vice Presidential Debate.
