Court of appeals session at law school Feb. 9

Session canceled as of 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit will hold a special session from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the School of Law’s Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom in Anheuser-Busch Hall.

The public is invited to hear three appeals cases related to a class action suit regarding organic food labeling; claims of false arrest, slander and malicious prosecution; and a dispute over a fee agreement between two law firms.

The court periodically holds sessions in law schools as part of an educational program.

Hearing oral arguments will be judges William Jay Riley, J.D., Lavenski R. Smith, J.D., and Bobby E. Shepherd, J.D.

After the session, the judges will answer questions about procedural issues and judicial clerkships.

To limit the amount of disturbances to the proceedings, visitors are asked to enter and exit the courtroom only during breaks between oral arguments.

Due to security reasons, backpacks, laptops, duffle bags and cameras are not allowed in the courtroom. All cell phones must be turned off. Ball caps may not be worn.

Case briefs for the oral argument session will be on temporary reserve in the law school’s library under “Eighth Circuit Special Session.”
