The performance will take place in the Ballroom Theatre of the university’s 560 Music Center, located at 560 Trinity Ave., near the intersection with Delmar Boulevard. Tickets are $15, or $10 for seniors and $5 for students and will be available at the door.

The program will feature piano trios of Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), including his popular Piano Trio No. 39 in G major (1795). The piece is nicknamed the “Gypsy Rondo” for its lively final movement, “Rondo a l’Ongarese: Presto,” which Haydn wrote in the “Gypsy” style. Also on the program will be lieder of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), including the 1816 song cycle “An die ferne Geliebte (To the Distant Beloved),” which will be sung by Greenlaw.

Also on the concert will be fortepianist Seth Carlin, professor of music and director of the piano program, as well as three Kingsbury regulars: violinist Marc Thayer, flutist Paul Thompson and cellist Ken Kulosa.

Ian Greenlaw

Greenlaw, who joined the music faculty in fall 2008, has performed with opera companies and orchestras from coast to coast. The Chicago Sun-Times characterized him as “possessing a voice both strong and sweet, and matinee idol good looks,” while the Washington Post praised his “elegant stage presence,” “subtle sense of humor” and “splendid voice.”

Greenlaw recently made his debut at La Scala — the renowned opera house in Milan, Italy — as the protagonist in Lorin Maazel’s “1984.” Other recent engagements include an appearance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as a soloist in Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem”; Mercutio in Atlanta Opera’s “Romeo et Juliette”; Grandfather Clock/Cat in “L’enfant et les Sortilèges,” with New York Philharmonic; and as the soloist in Béla Bartók’s “Cantata Profana” with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Greenlaw made his debut with New York’s Metropolitan Opera as the Theater Manager in Francis Poulenc’s “Les Mamelles de Tirésias” and returned as Harlequin in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” Fléville in “Andrea Chénier,” Moralès in “Carmen” and Cascada in “The Merry Widow.” He also has appeared with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Colorado, Arizona Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Central City Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Dallas Opera and Lyric Opera Cleveland, among many others.

Upcoming performances include the title role in “Don Giovanni” for New England’s Opera North and the role of Albert in “Werther” for New Opera St. Louis.
