Susan Pruchnicki is a principal with Bond Wolfe Architects, a St. Louis design firm that has developed a range of educational, municipal and commercial projects.
Pruchnicki earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture in 1986 and a Master of Architecture in 1988, both from Washington University. She spent four years with HOK and six years with Mackey Mitchell Associates prior to joining Bond Wolfe in 1998. She was named the firm’s third principal in 2004.
Pruchnicki has received multiple AIA Design Awards and Illuminating Engineering Society Awards. In 2009, her work for the Maplewood Public Library was recognized for Excellent Adaptive Reuse by the St. Louis County Historic Buildings Commission. Other honors include a St. Louis Magazine At Home Design Award; a Cityscape Award from Downtown St. Louis, Inc.; and a Readers’ Choice Award from Construction News & Review. In 2008, the St. Louis Business Journal named her one of its Influential Business Women.
Pruchnicki remains active with the College of Architecture and the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design, serving as a frequent design studio juror and, in recent years, as a speaker for the Alberti program, which introduces St. Louis Public School students to architecture. From 1994-2007, she served on the Dean’s Advisory Committee and in 2006 served on the Dean’s Search Committee. In 1998, she won architecture’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Since 2005 she has served as Architecture School Representative to the Alumni Board of Governors and, since 2007, has co-chaired the Eliot Committee.
An active member of the AIA, Pruchnicki served on the St. Louis Chapter’s board of directors from 2000-05; as president in 2006; and as chair of the Finance Committee from 2007-08. A volunteer mentor in the Intern Development Program, she also founded, in 2009, the AIA’s Diversity Committee, which partners with the Alberti Program and the AIA’s Young Architects Forum to pair middle school children with young architects.
