Arts & Sciences teaching assistants listen as they are recognized for their exemplary performances during the annual Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence ceremony, held April 19 in the Danforth University Center. Among the 13 award recipients are (from left) graduate students Patrick Johnson, physics; Maureen McKiernan, chemistry; Nicholas Miller, English; Timothy Oakberg, philosophy-neuroscience-psychology; Diana O’Brien, political science; Cara Ocobock, anthropology; Yoojin Soh, Asian and Near Eastern studies; and Norma Suvak, women, gender and sexuality studies. Richard J. Smith, PhD, dean of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the Ralph E. Morrow Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences, presided over the event, in which the students received a $1,500 award and certificate of recognition. The ceremony coincided with the kickoff of Graduate Education Week in Missouri, April 19-24, as designated by Gov. Jay Nixon.
