Harvey Fields, PhD, assistant director for academic programs at Cornerstone: The Center for Advanced Learning, congratulates Cassandra Newburg at the Cornerstone Celebration in Holmes Lounge April 20. Newburg, who graduated in May, was being honored for her role as a Calculus Peer-Led Team Learning leader this year. Also at the awards ceremony, five students and two faculty members received a Sony VAIO S Series Notebook and technology package as part of the Sony Electronics Scholarship Award. The Sony program was designed to recognize outstanding, financially disadvantaged students as well as top tenure-track junior faculty at select institutions throughout the United States. The two faculty recipients were Roshan Abraham, PhD, assistant professor of classics and religious studies, both in Arts & Sciences, and Liviu Mirica, PhD, assistant professor of chemistry in Arts & Sciences. Students chosen to receive Sony awards were junior Betel Ezaz, freshman Jennifer Oradiegwu, freshman Gana Pak, freshman Tomer Sabo and sophomore Ryan Wilson, all members of WUSTL’s TRiO Student Support Services program overseen by Cornerstone.
