AAMC’s Kirch to speak April 25

Darrell Kirch, MD, president and chief executive of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), will speak at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25 in Connor Auditorium in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center.

Kirch’s talk is titled “Can Washington University lead the way for a new excellence in academic medicine?” Faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.

Kirch speaks and publishes widely on the need for transformation in the nation’s health-care system and how academic medicine can lead that change across medical education, biomedical research, and patient care. Prior to becoming AAMC president in 2006, Kirch was dean and leader of academic health systems at two institutions. He has co-chaired the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for U.S. medical schools, and now serves as a member-at-large of the National Board of Medical Examiners and as chair of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Special Medical Advisory Group. Kirch also is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.
