Frederick O. Hanser, right, vice chairman of the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington University School of Law alum, presents David M. Becker, JD, associate dean for external relations and the Joseph H. Zumbalen Professor Emeritus of the Law of Property, with a personalized “50” Cardinals jersey during a gala honoring Becker’s 50th year of teaching at the law school. The gala, held Oct. 26 at the Ritz-Carlton, was part of a weekend of events honoring Becker’s milestone. The weekend began in Anheuser-Busch Hall with “The Law School in the New Legal Environment” symposium, bringing together academics, business leaders, judiciary members and a key watchdog group to discuss the future of legal education. The event featured panels on affordability and access to legal education; faculty; preparation for practice; job placement; and online education. The symposium ended with “Discussion of the Whole: Five Highest Priorities for Change,” led by Ruth McGregor, below, retired chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, and Daniel Bernstine, president of the Law School Admission Council.
