SYMPOSIUM: "Schönberg and the Blaue Reiter Almanac"

• Gerald N. Izenberg, Ph.D., professor of history in Arts & Sciences, "Painting Like Music: How Schönberg's Atonalism Midwifed Kandinsky's Abstraction"

• Bonny Hough Miller, Ph.D., pianist and historian, "Sounding the Soul: Schönberg, Herzgewächse and the Blaue Reiter Almanac"

Time: 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24

Location: Washington University's Alumni House, located on Wallace Drive, near the intersection of Forsyth Boulevard.

CONCERT: "Chamber Works of Arnold Schönberg"

Performers: Members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and faculty and students from Washington University's Department of Music.

Program: Four Songs, op. 2; Three Piano Pieces, op. 11; Herzgewächse for soprano, celesta, harmonium and harp; and String Quartet no. 2, Op. 10 with voice.

Time: 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24

Location: Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Steinberg Hall, near the intersection of Forsyth and Skinker boulevards.
