Professor Auslander's work focuses on health care/health behaviors, evaluation of interventions, behavioral and family research in diabetes, HIV prevention among adolescents at risk, minority health and health promotion, family functioning, and chronic illness. This work intersects with her teaching in the areas of the intervention research, impact of illness on individuals and families, minority health, prevention and practice in health care, and research methods.

The National Institutes of Health and the Annie E. Casey Foundation have funded several of her research projects. In addition, Professor Auslander serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Early Adolescence, and Health and Social Work, and reviews for a variety of journals such as Diabetes Care, Health Education & Behavior.
