Dr. Miller focuses her research on the roles of actin cytoskeletal structures in certain specialized cell types, using genetic and molecular genetic techniques to alter the function of particular proteins of the actin cytoskeleton. Examination of resulting disruptions of cell morphology and function permit understanding the roles of these proteins and their regulation. Because actin and its associated proteins are highly conserved across all eukaryotic species, the information about actin cytoskeletal organization and function is widely applicable.
