Biography

Shanta Pandey's professional interests are in social policy, poverty, and program evaluation. Her current research focuses on factors that affect women's pursuit of economic opportunities, welfare reform, gender, poverty, and rural development particularly involving women and local initiatives in Nepal. Pandey is the principal investigator of grants funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to study the impact of welfare reform on rural women with children. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation funded her project, "Women, Environment and Local Initiatives," which examined the nature, scope, and policy of implications of women's local initiatives to manage natural resources in Nepal.
