Women’s Society presents awards, scholarships

Leaders of the Women’s Society of Washington University announced the winners of the Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award and the Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholarship during the group’s annual membership meeting April 24.

The Switzer Leadership Award was presented to seniors Katherine Bush and Tiffini Hyatt.

The award recognizes outstanding undergraduates who made a significant contribution to Washington University in St. Louis during their undergraduate years and demonstrate exceptional potential for leadership.

In addition to maintaining an A average, Bush, a student at Olin Business School, co-chaired Olin’s Class of 2014 class gift campaign and was co-president of the Olin Peer Ambassador program.

Hyatt, a John B. Ervin Scholar who studied English literature and anthropology, in Arts & Sciences, was an undergraduate representative to the Board of Trustees, chair of diversity training for the Diversity Affairs Council and treasurer of the Black Pre-Law Association.

The Women’s Society also announced the winners of the Danforth Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship awarded annually to outstanding community college transfer students. This year’s recipients were Bianca Michelle Fountain and Rachel Jean Zink.

Fountain attended St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and maintained a 3.9 GPA.

Zink completed her associate’s degree with a 3.9 GPA at St. Louis Community College-Meramec, where she was secretary of the Student Governance Council, president of the Global Justice Project and also in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
