‘St. Louis, Novels, and St. Louis Novels’

Best-selling novelist Sittenfeld closes Assembly Series fall season

Several years ago, best-selling novelist Curtis Sittenfeld became a St. Louisan. Now with roots firmly planted in Missouri soil, the Ohio native has given the city a starring role in the 2013 novel “Sisterland.”

Sittenfeld will close the fall Washington University in St. Louis Assembly Series with a talk on “St. Louis, Novels, and St. Louis Novels” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Simon Hall’s May Auditorium. The lecture is sponsored by University Libraries and is also the annual Neureuther Library Lecture. It is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow.

In addition to “Sisterland,” Sittenfeld’s best-selling novels include “Prep” (2005), “The Man of My Dreams” (2006) and “American Wife” (2008).

Her books have achieved both commercial and critical success and have been included in many top American publications’ “best” lists. Sittenfeld also has contributed essays and written works for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Slate and Glamour, as well as for the public radio show, “This American Life.”

Her current project is a contemporary American re-imagining of “Pride and Prejudice” as part of The Austen Project, conceived by the British division of HarperCollins.

The former high school English teacher and native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a graduate of Stanford University and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
