Michal Grinstein-Weiss, PhD, associate professor and associate director of the Center for Social Development (CSD) at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, received a one-year, $100,000 grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to continue the Refund to Savings partnership.
Refund to Savings, the largest savings experiment — in terms of sample size — ever conducted in the United States, is reaching taxpayers through rigorously designed and scalable tax-refund savings interventions when filing taxes electronically. The initiative is a collaboration between university researchers and Intuit Inc., the maker of TurboTax tax preparation software.
The grant will be used to develop and implement a new savings promotion for the TurboTax Freedom Edition users; develop and administer the longitudinal Household Financial Survey; conduct preliminary analysis on 2015 intervention data and financial survey data; and to communicate information from experiments to policymakers and advocates, researchers, funders and the industry.
