Ludmerer honored with distinguished alumnus award

Kenneth M. Ludmerer, MD, the Mabel Dorn Reeder Distinguished Professor of the History of Medicine, recently received the 2015 Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Ludmerer, a renowned medical historian and educator, also is a professor of medicine at the School of Medicine and a professor of history in the College of Arts & Sciences.

He authored the recently published “Let Me Heal: The Opportunity to Preserve Excellence in American Medicine.” The book details the residency system for training doctors in the United States and explores how that system is of major importance to the country’s health. The book and Ludmerer’s research have been praised in Science magazine and The New York Review of Books and by many leaders in medical education.
